Chozick Family Art Gallery is pleased to present FAMILY / TREE, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition. Conceived as a way to introduce the gallery’s voice, this ambitious group show demonstrates values and dialogues which Family Gallery seeks to establish throughout our programming. Artists included served as significant points of inspiration in the gallery ethos, and continue to play an important role as collaborators and inspiration leading up to our establishment. 

Themes of heritage and exploration into our relationship to the natural and domestic environment anchor the show. Artists including Christopher Paz-Rivera, Sara Jimenez, and Alexandra Camacho respectively examine intergenerational bonds and their families’ experiences with immigration.

KB Jones, Amy Bravo, and Gitte Maria Möller each incorporate symbolism or narrative elements pulled directly from their individual upbringings and family lore. Elbert Joseph Perez questions ideas of belonging while Alix Van Der Donckt-Ferrand considers our relationship to origins  and feelings of both closeness and distance. 

Erica Mao and Diana Sofia Lozano explicate the human relationship to the natural world in the context of spirituality, adaptability, and survival, while Orlando Estrada, Sacha Ingber, and Zenobia consider colonial history through representations of architecture and domestic spaces. Lauren Clark, Sofía del Mar Collins, and Heidi Norton each incorporate organic materials  throughout their paintings and sculptures to echo ideas of place. 

The works included in FAMILY / TREE range from drawings and paintings to sculpture and collage, underscoring the gallery program’s commitment to material experimentation and mixed media.
